Chapter 10 - Missing Southeastern Locations

Barnsnake River

Possibly another name for one of the southern Yendi Rivers.

I recognized the region at once because Dzur Mountain was marked near the left-hand border, and I recognized the Barnsnake River two-thirds of the way toward the right, which meant the markings on the right border were the foothills of the Eastern Mountains. Kragar pointed to an area a little above and to the right of Dzur Mountain. "Fornia County," he said, tracing an area that ran almost all the way to the edge of the map (Dragon, Chapter 3)

Blacktar

The County of Arylle was raised to a Duchy ... in recognition of Corpet's daughter ... who assisted in the Siege of Blacktar by refusing passage of supply trains through her domain, and, further, by refusing to sell her produce to the rebellious Baroness of Lockfree (Five Hundred Years After, Chapter 9)

Blackwater

North of Adrilankha.

[Paresh's family's] thirty acres ... our closest neighbor to the west [had] twenty-eight acres ... out neighbor to the north had thirty-five acres ... I was granted twenty acres a few miles south of where my family lived ... there was a woman I'd met in Blackwater who still lived at home. (Teckla, Chapter 2)

Brambles

Numerous roads crisscross Mistyvale County: from Riverwall to Steps, from Brambles to Crossway, from Nacine to Gridley, from Hillcrest to Ripples, from Lottstown to Gorge ... the Pins [an inn or tavern] between Crossway and Hillcrest ... another ... found on the Hillcrest Pike not far from Deepwell, is the Deepwell Inn [the Blue Fox] ... Mistyvale [County] had been part of Arylle, Luatha, and even Hampers at various times. (Sethra Lavode, Chapter 76)

Chengri

In Fornia, possibly between Fornia proper and Southmoor (if Southmoor is Sethra's base of operations).

He sent his third division all the way around the other side of Chengri to cut me off from my base of supplies. (Dragon, Chapter 13)

Crossway

Numerous roads crisscross Mistyvale County: from Riverwall to Steps, from Brambles to Crossway, from Nacine to Gridley, from Hillcrest to Ripples, from Lottstown to Gorge ... the Pins [an inn or tavern] between Crossway and Hillcrest ... another ... found on the Hillcrest Pike not far from Deepwell, is the Deepwell Inn [the Blue Fox] ... Mistyvale [County] had been part of Arylle, Luatha, and even Hampers at various times. (Sethra Lavode, Chapter 76)

Mount Drift

There were mountains before us now: the Eastern Mountains in general, and Mount Drift in particular; I remembered it from the map. There was no more rain at all, as we had reached the dry lands west of the mountains; by whim of the Gods or freak of nature, the eastern slopes of the mountains were lush and forested while the western would have been desert were it not for the mountain streams, washes, and rivers that made their way across ... Eventually, late one evening, we reached the Eastern River ... Beyond it Mount Drift was getting close, and its companions were appearing tall and impassible ... once we crossed the river, we could follow it downstream right into the heart of Fornia's territory. (Dragon, Chapter 10)

I asked Steve if Mount Drift was another name for South Mountain, and he replied, "I don't remember." If it isn't, then it is nearby, as South Mountain is the first peak you encounter when arriving from the southwest, which is the direction Vlad came from.

Gorge

Numerous roads crisscross Mistyvale County: from Riverwall to Steps, from Brambles to Crossway, from Nacine to Gridley, from Hillcrest to Ripples, from Lottstown to Gorge ... the Pins [an inn or tavern] between Crossway and Hillcrest ... another ... found on the Hillcrest Pike not far from Deepwell, is the Deepwell Inn [the Blue Fox] ... Mistyvale [County] had been part of Arylle, Luatha, and even Hampers at various times. (Sethra Lavode, Chapter 76)

Gravely

Morrolan's small army spotted what seemed to be a small force [from Izak's army] along the road that runs from Nacine to Gravely (The Lord of Castle Black, Chapter 54)

I think the road is probably the Nacine Road, which runs east/west. The similarly named Roughground is to the west, so perhaps Gravely is also to the west, or it might be to the east.

Gridley

Numerous roads crisscross Mistyvale County: from Riverwall to Steps, from Brambles to Crossway, from Nacine to Gridley, from Hillcrest to Ripples, from Lottstown to Gorge ... the Pins [an inn or tavern] between Crossway and Hillcrest ... another ... found on the Hillcrest Pike not far from Deepwell, is the Deepwell Inn [the Blue Fox] ... Mistyvale [County] had been part of Arylle, Luatha, and even Hampers at various times. (Sethra Lavode, Chapter 76)

The Great Sand Flats

I travel with my little cart here to Nacine, and there I purchase items made from the good clay of the district, as well as glass bottles made from sand from the Great Sand Flats (The Lord of Castle Black, Chapter 66)

Presumably near to Nacine, perhaps to the southeast (an essentially blank area on my map).

Hampers

A duchy that borders Mistyvale County

Mistyvale [County] had been part of Arylle, Luatha, and even Hampers at various times. (Sethra Lavode, Chapter 76)

Hillcrest

Numerous roads crisscross Mistyvale County: from Riverwall to Steps, from Brambles to Crossway, from Nacine to Gridley, from Hillcrest to Ripples, from Lottstown to Gorge ... the Pins [an inn or tavern] between Crossway and Hillcrest ... another ... found on the Hillcrest Pike not far from Deepwell, is the Deepwell Inn [the Blue Fox] ... Mistyvale [County] had been part of Arylle, Luatha, and even Hampers at various times. (Sethra Lavode, Chapter 76)

Hillcrest Pike

One of the roads that crisscross Mistyvale County, presumably with Hillcrest one one end, and perhaps Ripples on the other?

Numerous roads crisscross Mistyvale County: from Riverwall to Steps, from Brambles to Crossway, from Nacine to Gridley, from Hillcrest to Ripples, from Lottstown to Gorge ... the Pins [an inn or tavern] between Crossway and Hillcrest ... another ... found on the Hillcrest Pike not far from Deepwell, is the Deepwell Inn [the Blue Fox] ... Mistyvale [County] had been part of Arylle, Luatha, and even Hampers at various times. (Sethra Lavode, Chapter 76)

Landlocked Harbor

In Mistyvale County.

Dewers's famous Tales of the Landlocked Harbor are set there (Sethra Lavode, Chapter 76)

Perhaps there is a lake large enough to support a harbor?

Lockfree

The County of Arylle was raised to a Duchy ... in recognition of Corpet's daughter ... who assisted in the Siege of Blacktar by refusing passage of supply trains through her domain, and, further, by refusing to sell her produce to the rebellious Baroness of Lockfree (Five Hundred Years After, Chapter 9)

Longgrass County

I think this is probably another name for the Sorannah, or Luatha, and if not, this is the region known for it's tall grasses.

During the War of the Barons there was a case where an entire county--I believe Longgrass (Phoenix, Chapter 6)

Lottstown

the iron center of Lottstown, far to the east [of Adrilankha]. (The Paths of the Dead, Chapter 8)

Numerous roads crisscross Mistyvale County: from Riverwall to Steps, from Brambles to Crossway, from Nacine to Gridley, from Hillcrest to Ripples, from Lottstown to Gorge (Sethra Lavode, Chapter 76)

Moortown

[The Duchy of Arylle's] southern neighbor, the [County of Shaltre] ... The district between Shaltre and Bra-moor was ... a barony called Daavya ... Moortown, some three leagues [from Brachington's Moor] (Five Hundred Years After, Chapter 9)

Naarsten County

[The cheese] comes from Naarsten County, in the Sorannah. It's from a special breed of goat. (Iorich, Chapter 17)

Nearby

the village of Nearby in Mistyvale County (Sethra Lavode, Chapter 71)

Pondview

My husband is very weary from the revels of the last night, which were spent in Pondview, just a few leagues from [Newmarket]. (The Phoenix Guards, Chapter 2)

Ripples

Numerous roads crisscross Mistyvale County: from Riverwall to Steps, from Brambles to Crossway, from Nacine to Gridley, from Hillcrest to Ripples, from Lottstown to Gorge ... the Pins [an inn or tavern] between Crossway and Hillcrest ... another ... found on the Hillcrest Pike not far from Deepwell, is the Deepwell Inn [the Blue Fox] ... Mistyvale [County] had been part of Arylle, Luatha, and even Hampers at various times. (Sethra Lavode, Chapter 76)

Riverwall

Numerous roads crisscross Mistyvale County: from Riverwall to Steps, from Brambles to Crossway, from Nacine to Gridley, from Hillcrest to Ripples, from Lottstown to Gorge ... the Pins [an inn or tavern] between Crossway and Hillcrest ... another ... found on the Hillcrest Pike not far from Deepwell, is the Deepwell Inn [the Blue Fox] ... Mistyvale [County] had been part of Arylle, Luatha, and even Hampers at various times. (Sethra Lavode, Chapter 76)

Steps

Numerous roads crisscross Mistyvale County: from Riverwall to Steps, from Brambles to Crossway, from Nacine to Gridley, from Hillcrest to Ripples, from Lottstown to Gorge ... the Pins [an inn or tavern] between Crossway and Hillcrest ... another ... found on the Hillcrest Pike not far from Deepwell, is the Deepwell Inn [the Blue Fox] ... Mistyvale [County] had been part of Arylle, Luatha, and even Hampers at various times. (Sethra Lavode, Chapter 76)

Swells

Just north of Adrilankha.

village of Swells (Tiassa, Special Tasks 3)

Teringa

From Castle Black.

He caused black marble and obsidian to be imported from the far north, white marble ... to be sent from the near north, silver from the Canthrip, brass and good steel from the forges and foundries of Tirenga to the east, glass from the south, and teak from Tree-by-the-Sea in the far northwest (this last being sent by ship to Adrilankha before coming overland, as it was still impossible to pass through the heartland owing to Kana's continuing influence) (The Lord of Castle Black, Chapter 65)

There's not much to the east of Castle Black, unless he's talking about the East. The name is similar to Tiren's Peak.

Trior River

the waterfalls from the Trior River, a tributary of the Shallow River which flows near my home. (The Phoenix Guards, Chapter 11)

"My home" is presumably Castle Rock

Turtle

[Sethra] pointed to a spot [on a map] and said, "We strike here ... and retreat this way, toward the Eastern Mountains ... We'll need to make arrangements [to bivouac] if we're west of the Flatstone River, or north of Turtle (Dragon, Chapter 6)

Probably east of the Flatstone River by process of elimination, and with a name like "Turtle", probably near water (so either on the Flatstone River or near or on the coast of the Shallow Sea).

Wilder

[Dzur Mountain is] about midway between the Adrilankha River and the Eastern River. Either would be suitable for a southward journey, but ... you will be going north ... there is a road through the jungle ... that crosses the Eastern River ... at a good ford. The road then turns east to the Shallow Sea, but if you continue north [you will] find a road running through the jungle [to] Wilder [on] the edge of the Pushta (The Paths of the Dead, Chapter 24)
